Term: Spring 2022 (Soc 320, Section 061)
Status: Open
Contact: Ada Britt Inman abinman@wisc.edu. This position is available for 1-3 credits.
Description: This is an applied research course with virtual instruction. Through this spring research internship, undergraduate research assistants (RAs) will collaborate with and work under the direction of COWS staff members to edit, produce, and publish public policy-focused podcast episodes using Audacity through COWS and ProGov21.
RAs will gain an understanding of how concepts and problems of political, economic, and environmental sociology are actualized and addressed through public policy and gain hands-on experience producing and editing podcast episodes. RAs will keep a research log, attend weekly virtual meetings with the supervising staff, and write a reflection essay about their applied research experience at the end of the spring semester.
Each week, students will submit an updated research log with details about their podcast editing and outreach work. Work will be submitted directly via upload to the ProGov21 website; progress will be tracked via self-report in a shared Google spreadsheet. Weekly workload will be determined by the number of credits taken by the student.
Duties: Responsibilities include editing and producing podcast episodes, contributing to social media content, and aiding in organizational outreach. The RA will keep a weekly research log, regularly attend virtual team and individual meetings, and prepare a reflection essay at the end of the semester.
