Associate Professor John Eason has received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to research the extent of the reciprocal relationship of infections and deaths from COVID-19 among prisoners, correctional staff and the larger community over time. The project will also examine the spatial aspects of the relationship of infections and deaths from COVID-19. The aim is to assess the effectiveness of various policies prisons have used to decrease and control infections and deaths.
Eason is collaborating with Danielle Wallace, Associate Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Arizona State University. His responsibilities will include project direction, mapping, data collection and analyses, and the preparation of manuscripts for publication. His work will to advise on cleaning, coding, and matching geocoded data by prison type and security level.
