Soc 320 Research Opportunity, Summer 2026: Selecting Studies for an Experimental Methodology Project

Term: Summer 2026 (Soc 320, Section 178)
Status: OPEN
Contact: Please contact Tamkinat Rauf at trauf@wisc.edu. It is available for 1-2 credits.

Description: This project aims to test the effects of features of survey experiment design. Our goal is to curate an inventory of survey experiments in sociology that had significant treatment effects. The student will be charged with curating this inventory from a list that I will provide. The student will read about the experiment design, write a short summary of each experiment, and assess suitability for inclusion in our project based on given criteria. Through this work, students will learn about survey experiments and develop project management skills. Students interested in pursuing experimental research in sociology or psychology, or those generally interested in pursuing a research career, will particularly benefit from this experience.

Duties: The student will need to collect and read information from various online sources, and document information in an organized manner. We will meet weekly to review progress and set goals. Enrollment will entail a weekly commitment of 3 hours of work/credit.

Requirements: The ideal candidate would have taken at least one sociology course and at least one statistics course. Enrollment in the CASR program is a plus.

To Apply: Please email your resume, unofficial transcript, and a short description about your interest in working on this project to Tamkinat Rauf at trauf@wisc.edu. There are up to two positions. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled.
