Opinion piece in Newsweek: John Eason States Need to Vaccinate the Prison Population

Eason, who wrote this article with 3 colleagues who also research criminal justice, points out how some of the counties in the U.S. that are most affected by COVID-19 are those where correctional facilities are located.  Upon review of state plans for vaccination administration, however, only a few states have identified prisoners as a population targeted for vaccination after the top priority groups of health workers and elderly living in nursing homes.  The article warns that  “Without an explicit commitment to immunizing the incarcerated population early, there’s a risk that an unfair and irrational bias against immunizing incarcerated people may take hold.”  Read more….
