The Interdisciplinary Training (ITP) program focuses on three themes for its predoctoral education research scholars: 1) Design and implementation of field-based randomized studies in schools; 2) Statistical analysis of quantitative survey, observational, and assessment data on education, with special attention to questions of causal inference; 3) Translation of research to maximize impact on educational policy at the federal, state, and local levels. ITP has been funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences since 2005. The Department of Sociology is one of several other departments at UW-Madison that has faculty and students working together in this program. Professor Eric Grodsky serves as Co-Director of ITP with Professor of Psychology, Martha Alibali. Other Sociology faculty members involved in the program are Assistant Professor Jordan Conwell and Romnes Professor Felix Elwert.
