Many sociology majors (about half) pursue advanced degrees, directly after undergraduate
school or after working for a while. These include masters or doctoral degrees in sociology, social work, education, psychology, law, business, criminology, health care, public policy, and communications, among others. Students who go on to graduate school do so for idealistic reasons as well as to pursue specific career goals. The American Sociological Association offers information about Graduate Training in Sociology and a Guide to Graduate Departments of Sociology. You can also discuss other graduate study options with our career and graduate school advisors.
