Introduction to Solidarity:
Solidarity is a group of students of color in the Sociology department that seek to support and empower each other. It contributes to the well-being of students of color by making a safe and welcoming space in the department.
Its primary activities include weekly lunches and monthly social events, such as outings to the university arboretum. It also has weekly writing sessions in the lounge separately allocated for the Solidarity members. There are occasional professionalization events, such as job market panels by current graduate students of color on the job market. Lastly, Solidarity holds an open house during Visit Day. It provides an opportunity for current students to share their experiences with prospective students of color and to make them feel welcomed.
