Soc 320 Research Opportunity, Fall 2025: Prior Studies in Decoupling

Description: This project is designed for a review paper on the methodological approaches to study decoupling, which is a classic phenomenon in organizational sociology that describes the discrepancy between formal policies and everyday actions of organizations (e.g., the gap between affirmative actions and actual hiring practices and outcomes). The paper will be about how prior studies have defined and measured decoupling, with the goal of revisiting the theoretical and epistemic basis of decoupling.

Enrolled undergraduate will assist in the systematic classification of prior studies in decoupling. This task involves the ability to read and comprehend the large number of assigned readings in a short time.

Duties:
Systematic literature review using a structured codebook.
Weekly meetings with research team.

Requirements: No prior research experience is required, other than having a strong interest in organizational sociology and management studies.
