Chiara Packard has won the 2023-2024 UW Madison’s Genevieve Gorst Herfurth Award for Outstanding Research in the Social Sciences for her paper “Prosecution for Services: How the Blending of Coercion and Care Shapes Prosecutors’ Decisions.”
Julia Thomas received an honorable mention for the 2023-2024 Genevieve Gorst Herfurth Award for her paper “The Legacy of Lynching: Historic Lynching Practices and Individuals’ Risk of Being Sentenced to Death.”
Julia has previously received the 2022 Distinguished Student Paper Award within the Crime, Law, and Deviance Section of the American Sociological Association for this same paper.
