Sociology alumna Alex Hanna, Ph.D. 2016, came out as a transgender woman while at UW- Madison and recently created a scholarship to support undergraduate students committed to and engaged in activities that support the LGBTQ+ community. Her story was recently featured in the College of Letters & Science publication “Sift & Winnow.” Hanna now works as the Director of Research for the Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (DAIR), an organization committed to centering communities impacted by technology to improve the use of AI.
