The Romnes fellowship is named in honor of Haakon Ingolf (H.I.) Romnes, late Trustee and President of the WARF Board. A lifelong friend of the university, his entire career was characterized by integrity, self-discipline and the ability to accomplish monumental tasks while preserving the full support and admiration of all who came to know him. With this fellowship, the University recognizes Michal’s academic success and provides an opportunity for continued development of an outstanding research program.

Michal is a demographer and gerontologist studying the dynamics of population aging and the determinants of longevity and well-being at older ages. Her work examines trajectories of health throughout the life course and their connection with changing aggregate patterns of mortality and morbidity over time.
