UW-MADISON TOP UNIVERSITY FOR PhDs IN 2017

The UW-Madison granted more doctorates than any other U.S Institution in 2017, according to the Survey of Earned Doctorates. Another survey found that UW-Madison graduate alumni felt that their program prepared them well for their careers. Sociology Department alumnus Jessa Lewis Valentine, (PhD 2015), states “My experience with the Interdisciplinary Training Program in the Education Sciences (ITP) and the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, combined with the sociology department’s strong research methods training, prepared me very well for my current role,” says Valentine who works as a higher education consultant with DVP-PRAXIS LTD.

UW–Madison granted 844 doctorates in 2017, ranking it 1st in the nation. Over half of UW doctoral alumni work in higher education, including faculty, administration, research and staff. About a quarter are working in business.
